Small bag for Cadence.  I made a bunch of these as gifts, but never took pictures of them.

Simple skirt with big pockets.  Cadence loves things with pockets so that she can fill them with treasures.

Another skirt with big pockets.

Gaucho pants made from an old t-shirt (AKA silly pants to Cadence)

You’ve seen plenty of this picture.  I found this quilt looking fabric at a store in Cambridge and fell in love with it.  It’s so girly, but so whimsical at the same time.  Anyhow, I added a border and a backside made from an old flat sheet, sewed it up and made two ties at the bottom and now it’s a duvet cover for her blanket.  I also made a matching pillow.

First dress I’ve made with a lining.  I made ties at the back because I still have not learned how to sew on zippers!

Summer 20092

This is my favorite piece of clothing that I’ve made for Cadence so far.  I love the green and floral prints.  I designed the back on my own (actually I’m just lazy to learn how to add a zipper).  The tie is super cute though don’t you think?

Fun ruffle skirt!

July 2009

Summertime is a great time to sew.  There are lots of things you can make for little girls.  Here are a few that I’ve made recently.

Not a great shot of Cadence since she didn’t want to pose.  Here’s a cute July 4th themed halter dress that I made.  It was so easy and only took me about an hour to whip up.  I’ll have to find the pattern for it and link it.

I love this new dress that I just made for Cadence.  I used the fabric from the chest and hem band to create the flower motif on the dress.  It ties in very nicely.  I got this idea from this website.  She has lots of great projects that I want to try out.

Cadence was asking for a bed for her little baby doll.  We tried putting the baby in her book shelf, but she didn’t like that, so I had to come up with a creative way to make a bed for the doll (without having to actually go out to buy one).  I had these shallow baskets that I bought from Target and one was just lying around.  It just looked like a bed to me, so I took off the inside lining and added ruffles to the bottom for the bed and then made matching pillows and blankets.  Voila – instant baby bed…and Cadence loves it!

May and June 2009

The last few months I’ve been doing a lot of sewing.  I developed an interest in it after reading up on a lot of arts and craft blogs (they’re pretty addictive).  Sucheng got me a sewing machine for my birthday last year and I started making pillow cases and easy things, but now I’m getting a bit fancier.  I started making bags, dresses, skirts and lots of other cute things for kids.  I’ll post more as I create them.

First dress I made from a pattern.  I think it came out pretty good considering I had to modify it a bit (not enough of the pink with brown polka dot fabric).  This was made especially for Sucheng’s graduation.

Ruffled skirt – I love this fabric combination.  It was pretty easy to make as well.  I’ll add the link to the pattern later.

New Backpack for Cadence; made especially for our trip.

Love these furry friends!  They are great as gifts.  I made one for the new daughter of one of my mommy friends.  I got the pattern from here.

Gray wrap sweater with flowers – my first crochet sweater.  Didn’t take as long as I thought it would…probably because it was for a toddler.

Green three quarter length sleeve sweater – extremely cute and wasn’t too hard either.  Find the pattern here.

Stylish belt – I used the ribbon that came with the Gap gift box (look familiar)?  It was super easy to make and so stylish!

  2. Your things are adorable! You are doing such a great job sewing–I need to get into it again. I love the skirt with the big pockets. For zippers… once you do it you’ll be surprised how easy it is. I learned by watching videos on youtube. Much easier to watch someone than read directions. Keep posting your crafts–I love seeing them. And Gwen still loves her little bunny. Actually, Kate may love it a bit more!
